NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee is celebrating the power and accomplishments of women with an April 29 concert and discussion in Nashville entitled “We As Women.”
The evening will feature musical performances by Ari Afsar, Meghan Linsey, Lydia Luce and Becca Mancari. Poet and essayist Destiny Birdsong will read her poetry. The event will also feature a moderated conversation with community leaders Caroline Williams, author and writer-in-residence at Fisk University; Sabina Mohyuddin, program manager for the American Muslim Advisory Council; and Jazmin Ramirez, immigrants’ rights advocate and specialist at Girls Inc.
“While we still have work to do, over the past century, women have made great strides in the fight for equality, including winning the right to vote and making inroads towards equal opportunity in the workplace, in the arts and in education,” said ACLU-TN Executive Director Hedy Weinberg. “We are hosting this event to shine a light on and to celebrate some of the women using their voices to create a more equitable and just Tennessee for all.”
This event is presented in partnership with the national ACLU, co-sponsored by the ACLU of Tennessee and Lyft, and hosted by Go West Creative.

Go West President, CEO and Chief Creative David Fischette said, “I am personally excited to be supporting the ‘We As Women’ event. I met Ari Afsar through a domestic violence video that I directed and produced a few years ago for several women’s organizations, so having the opportunity to collaborate on another event that centers around championing women and women’s causes is an incredible honor.”
The event is taking place at Go West Creative, located at 100 Taylor Street, Suite A9, Nashville. Doors open at 6 p.m. The event will kick off with a reception from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited so reservations are required at https://action.aclu.org/event/we-as-women, or by contacting ACLU-TN at 615-320-7142.
