MEMPHIS, Tenn. – On the eve of early voting, the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee today released Memphis mayoral and city council candidates’ responses to a questionnaire on criminal justice reform.

The responses detail candidates’ positions on issues such as law enforcement's use of deadly force, the Community Law Enforcement Review Board, the school-to-prison pipeline, transparency and more.

“Memphians, including our members in Memphis, care deeply about issues related to criminal justice reform,” said Brandon Tucker, ACLU of Tennessee policy director. “This questionnaire was something we wanted to do to equip voters with as much information as possible on candidates’ visions for the future of criminal justice reform as they head to the polls, starting with early voting tomorrow.”

All qualifying mayoral and city council candidates were sent questionnaires. Their answers are available by candidate, by question, and by city council district at https://www.aclu-tn.org/criminal-justice-reform-memphis-municipal-candidate-questionnaires/
