LGBTQ+ Equality

ACLU has been fighting for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people since 1936, when it brought its first gay rights case. Our goal is an America where LGBTQ+ people can live openly, with their identities, relationships and families respected.

Police Accountability

ACLU-TN works to foster public safety, prevent abuse in encounters between law enforcement and civilians, and improve community-police relations through an expansion of police accountability in the state.

Privacy, Surveillance and Technology

As technology advances, we need to make sure that protections for privacy and free speech aren’t left behind. ACLU-TN works to expand the right to privacy, increase individuals’ control over their personal information, and ensure that civil liberties are enhanced by technological innovation.

Racial Justice

ACLU-TN works to preserve and extend constitutionally-guaranteed civil liberties and civil rights to people who have historically been denied their rights on the basis of race and ethnicity. ACLU-TN fights to stop discrimination and to ensure equal opportunities for communities of color.

Religious Freedom

ACLU-TN defends the right of all Americans to freely practice their religion and express their faith, or to choose not to practice a religion. We oppose government endorsement of one religion over another, and we support individuals’ right to worship without government interference or influence.

Reproductive Justice

ACLU-TN works to ensure that every person can make the best decisions for themselves and their family about whether and when to have a child without undue political interference.
